SPECIAL FOCUS: 300 DAYS IN OFFICE: A JOURNEY OF IMPACT, PROGRESS, AND PEOPLE-CENTERED GOVERNANCE

Over the past 300 days in office, the administration led by Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele in Imota Local Council Development Area has remained steadfast in its commitment to purposeful leadership, responsive governance, and sustainable development under the vision of #ForAGreaterImotaLCDA.

Guided by the principles of accountability, inclusiveness, and service, the administration has consistently implemented impactful initiatives through the “Hi-SEE” Transformation Agenda, aimed at improving lives and promoting development across critical sectors of the community.

From infrastructural renewal to youth empowerment, educational support, healthcare interventions, community engagement, and social welfare initiatives, the BSA-BOJ administration has demonstrated a clear commitment to bringing governance closer to the people while addressing pressing community needs.

COMMITMENT TO GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

One of the defining hallmarks of the administration within the last 300 days has been its unwavering dedication to grassroots development. Through strategic interventions and community-focused projects, several developmental programmes have been initiated and executed to improve the standard of living of residents across Imota LCDA.

Key achievements include:

▪️Community Needs Assessment Tour to identify the priorities and pressing needs of residents across Imota LCDA.

▪️Reconstruction of culverts at Ayedelege Street, in front of the Primary Healthcare Centre in Atere, beside the Asphalt Yard, and at Lolo Estate to improve drainage and accessibility.

▪️Commissioning of a six-block toilet facility with water system at Methodist Primary School, Imota.

▪️Grading of 87 major internal roads across Imota LCDA.

▪️Re-roofing of the Imota LCDA Council Secretariat.

▪️Renovation of the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre.

▪️Clearance of dumpsites at Oriokuta Community and Imota Roundabout.

▪️Reconstruction of the plank footbridge linking Oke-Agbo and Igbalu communities.

▪️Clearance of the Igbokuta Bridge.

▪️Drainage clearing exercises across Imota LCDA.

▪️Enforcement of environmental sanitation compliance and public sensitization campaigns.

These interventions have contributed significantly to creating a cleaner, safer, and more conducive environment for residents and businesses alike.

EDUCATION AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

Education remains a vital pillar of development, and within the last 300 days, deliberate efforts have been made to support educational advancement through learning support initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and youth-focused programmes.

Recognizing the importance of youth inclusion in governance and development, the administration has invested heavily in programmes designed to equip young people with practical skills, educational opportunities, and economic support.

Notable initiatives include:

▪️Distribution of 18 free GCE forms to indigent students across Imota LCDA.

▪️Distribution of 250 free JAMB UTME forms to students.

▪️Organized of Spelling Bee Competitions for primary and secondary school pupils.

▪️Donation of ₦250,000 to the winner of the 21st Annual State Spelling Bee Competition and ₦250,000 to Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta.

▪️Hosting of “A Day with the Executive Chairman” in commemoration of the 2025 National Youth Day.

▪️Financial grants of ₦50,000 each to six undergraduate students.

▪️Strategic engagement with education stakeholders to address challenges affecting the education sector.

The administration firmly believes that empowering the younger generation remains essential to building a stronger, more prosperous, and sustainable society.

HEALTHCARE, STAFF WELFARE, AND SOCIAL SUPPORT INITIATIVES

The administration has demonstrated strong commitment toward improving healthcare delivery, promoting staff welfare, and supporting vulnerable members of society.

Through medical outreach programmes, health awareness campaigns, and strategic partnerships, residents have benefited from improved access to basic healthcare services and public health sensitization.

Special attention has also been given to elderly citizens, widows, and vulnerable groups through targeted social support programmes aimed at improving their wellbeing and quality of life.

Key interventions include:

▪️Launch of the Benson Medicare Initiative.

▪️Partnership with Harley and Rainbow Specialized Laboratories for free medical outreach for staff.

▪️Organized free aerobic exercise sessions to promote staff wellness.

▪️Settlement of outstanding severance payments and salary arrears owed to former political office holders from 2011–2014 and 2021–2025. Payment of two months salary arrears owed to former political office holders from 2011–2014, and payment of five months salary arrears owed to five former Executive Secretaries between 2014–2016.

▪️Hosting of the First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, during the First Baby of the Year 2026 celebration.

▪️Organized Christmas Carol and Thanksgiving services for Imota LCDA public servants.

▪️Hosting of a Christmas Funfair for pupils of public primary schools across Imota LCDA.

These initiatives have brought relief, hope, and encouragement to many households and public servants within the community.

GOVERNANCE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Understanding the importance of inclusive governance in community development, the administration has continued to collaborate with stakeholders, traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents to promote participatory governance and collective progress.

Regular stakeholder meetings and community engagements have strengthened the relationship between government and the people while creating platforms for dialogue, collaboration, and accountability.

Major governance milestones include:

▪️Procurement of three (3) utility vehicles to improve revenue generation operations.

▪️Hosting of the Lagos One-Day Governor, One-Day Deputy Governor, and Student Secretary to the State Government.

▪️Hosting of the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II.

▪️Organized Budget Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting.

▪️Conduct of INEC ward-based Continuous Voter Registration exercises across all wards.

▪️Organized a two-day 2026 Budget Retreat Programme.

▪️Presentation of the 2026 Budget of Strategic Impact to the Legislative Arm.

▪️Signing of the 2026 Appropriation Bill into Law.

▪️Organized a general staff meeting and interactive session with political office holders.

▪️Development of a 10-Year Imota LCDA Development Master Plan (2025–2035).

▪️Laying of the foundation for a Christian chapel and mosque at the council secretariat.

These efforts reflect an administration committed to transparency, institutional growth, and sustainable development planning.

THE JOURNEY AHEAD

The last 300 days have reflected an administration that listens, responds, and acts in the best interest of the people. Despite prevailing challenges, the government has remained focused on delivering quality service, promoting transparency, and ensuring that no segment of the community is left behind.

While celebrating the milestones achieved within the first 300 days in office, the administration remains fully aware that there is still more work ahead. The remaining 1,161 days will witness greater transformation, improved service delivery, expanded developmental initiatives, and sustained progress across all sectors.

With renewed determination and commitment, the administration remains focused on delivering more dividends of democracy, strengthening community development programmes, and implementing policies that will positively impact the lives of the people.

As the journey continues, the vision remains clear — to serve diligently, lead responsibly, and build a lasting legacy of growth, development, and positive transformation for generations to come.
